Chuck Taylor Quick Facts

I gotta admit that I've been using Chuck Taylor for four years now but I didn't really know who the old guy was, I'm sure that there's a lot of Converse fans slash regular users out there who wear the highly popular shoes who don't have a clue who chuck taylor was. Well, now you will know.

Mr. Chuck Taylor was a basketball player in the early 1900s who walked into Converse complaining of sore feet. For some reasons, converse offered him a job and eventually became a salesman and ambassador and promoted the shoes around the United States of America. He adopted them as his preferred shoe. He was very impressed with the design although he proposed some few changes. In 1923, his signature was added to the all star patch. He worked for converse as the lead salesman until shortly before his death in 1969.

For decades, the Converse Chuck Taylor all basketball shoe just came in color black until the basketball teams pressured them to manufacture in 1966, and they did, in 1966. They also used other materials aside from the traditional canvas like suede and vinyl, leather and even hemp.

With the poor business decisions and loss of market share, Converse filed for bankruptcy on January 22, 2001 and sadly the last factory in the US was closed. Thanks to their old time rival Nike who purchased the brand with 305 million dollars.

Today Chuck Taylor shoes by converse are still widely used by kids, teens, college students, young adults and even my old man still uses them!
