High school is the starting point of social cliques, and in every school, there would always be the popular clique, or the cool crowd as most would say. And while there are the popular ones, there would be some "losers", as they would term it.
As you step into high school, being the kind of person you are determines what kind of clique you belong to. Some would think that it's too late, but is it really hopeless?

Being popular doesn't necessarily mean being up-to-date with the latest fashion, being the prettiest girl in your school, being the hottest guy, etc. Popular people are not born; they educated themselves with the characteristics that get them their social statuses. Popularity means being known, being liked, and you wouldn't guess how easy it is to gain those popularity points.
STEP ONE: Know your strengths.
-What do you know best?
-What do you do best?
-What is your best asset?
Ask yourself these questions. So are you good in arts/painting/ martial arts/etc.?
STEP TWO: Use your strengths
Don't be shy, participate in these activities that you know you're good at. If you're good in singing, join a club or a musical, grab all opportunities, for these opportunities are your tickets to being known.
STEP THREE: SMILE!
Always smile to everyone you see. Smiling makes you look approachable.
STEP FOUR: Show interest in other people.
Once you have established being "approachable", people would then flock to you and be-friend you. It's important for you to show that you are genuinely interested with what they have to say. Make them the center of the conversation, for once they feel important; they would be comfortable with you.
STEP FIVE: Remember names.
Greet them with their names; it would make their day that someone remembered them.
STEP SIX: Be confident.
In whatever you do, you must be confident. Act like a leader, as most people are drawn to leaders; someone who could set a good example. But NEVER be bossy; you want to be liked, not feared.
STEP SEVEN: Be a "people" person.
Join activities, and encourage others. Make others feel eager, and soon you'll find yourself having a huge circle of friends.
Popular people make others feel that they have this bond with you, so it's important to build bonds with a lot of people. To sum it all up, being popular means being nice to everyone. Respect other people and you'll gain back the respect you deserve. Just follow these seven steps and you'll level up your status in no time!
