Ever tried writing with a running theme aside from your main topic? It is a clever way to unify your work - one that, when done well, can get your audience glued to your words.
I have seen this numerous times in many different creative works, from movies to TV programs to novels. In writing, this can be using a quote from a well-known author (such as Shakespeare, for instance) that appears during each section of the material. It can be a specific stance that you try to put forward, regardless of what topic (or subtopic) you're discussing. A running joke that is called back over and over can also serve in this manner.
