When you are planning a school carnival you may find that coming up with the perfect fundraising idea can be a bit like trying to write a great story. You will find yourself with a nasty case of "fundraiser block". Coming up with a cool and unique fundraising idea is very difficult!

One of the best, and most profitable, fundraising opportunities for a school is at the semi-annual school carnivals that most schools throw in the fall and spring. These two events should be viewed by the PTO or PTA as the two best opportunities to raise money for their schools. It is generally not an event that should cost the school anything.
Setting up a profit-sharing program at your school carnival with the amusement company providers and the food providers is the best way to ensure that the school, and the companies, will make money at the event. You should not as a carnival organizer expect that these companies are going to donate everything to you because of the great "marketing" that they will get from your event. Every one of these companies needs to make money to survive, but will often share profits from the event with you.
This is the key to making money at a school carnival. Being able to share the profits with these companies with no up-front risk or cost is huge for schools that are struggling to pay bills and stay afloat.
